NGA-Earth provides satellite imagery and maps primarily for the military and government organizations. We also provide imagery for natural disaster analysis to the public when requested to do so by a Lead Federal Agency.

"As a national intelligence agency, we are precluded from providing support directly to states, cities, or first responders. If we are asked by a state, city or first responder to provide support, we would call the appropriate Lead Federal Agency (LFA). For example, during natural disasters the Federal Emergency Management Agency is the LFA. They take requests for information from multiple sources, consolidate them, and then pass requests to us.We fulfill their requirements as one of our customers and then they pass information back to their customers. We only respond to tasking's from the LFA." -- James Clapper, former NGA director.

Most of the imagery available here comes from NGA's three Commercial Data Providers as part of NGA's ClearView and NextView contracts for commercial imagery.  The imagery is often available in panchromatic (grayscale) and multi-spectral (color) versions.

At this site you will find our MapApp Viewer which displays Hurricane Katrina imagery dated August thru October 2005. We have also created a Google Earth™ KML file for viewing the Hurricane imagery via that application. Authorized military and federal government users may also directly access NGA archives to find additional products via the NGA Commercial Data Service at https://ncds.nga-earth.org
